Henry François Farny was an American painter and illustrator of French origin, specialized in the description of Native Americans. in 1881, he made a first trip to the West to meet Sitting Bull. The meeting could not take place and it would only happen during a second trip in 1883, but Farny reconnected with the Indian world on this occasion. From then on, he dedicated all his work to it as well as to the life of the West, which he painted in a realistic style. Among the personalities of the West, besides Sitting Bull, he also met the great Apache chief Geronimo who countersigned the portrait the artist made of him.
