Gauguin Paul
Trained in Paris within the artistic circles of the late nineteenth century, Eugène Henri Paul Gauguin quickly established himself as a central figure of post-impressionism and synthetism. Seeking to break away from Western naturalism, the artist left the metropolis to isolate himself in Brittany and later in the islands of the South Pacific. His aesthetic orientation is deeply rooted in the Post-Impressionism movement and the Pont-Aven School. This nomadic journey permanently disrupted the conventions of visual representation.

The artist’s painting is characterized by the use of broad flat areas of pure color, dark outlines, and the abandonment of illusionistic perspective in favor of a synthetic vision. His luminous, saturated palette reflects a spiritual and primitive quest far from industrial European civilization. In “Self-portrait with yellow Christ”, the artist's figure dialogues with his own symbolic creations within Breton landscapes. Mystical fervor is also evident in “The Yellow Christ”, rendered with sharp autumnal hues. His Tahitian visions find full expression in “Arearea Joyousness”, where flat areas of vermilion and green exalt a lost paradise. Finally, existential complexity unfolds in the monumental canvas “Where do we come from? What are we doing? Where are we going?”.

As a central contributor to pictorial evolution, the painter exerted substantial influence on twentieth-century avant-gardes, notably Fauvism and Expressionism. His research into the autonomy of color paved the way for modern abstraction. His artistic legacy remains an essential reference in the history of art.
Acquiring a reproduction by Gauguin allows one to contemplate the power of colored flat areas and the exoticism of compositions, faithfully restored through a hand-created oil painting.
