Geometric abstraction in custom oil paintings of Piet Mondrian

Introduced to painting by his father and uncle, Pieter Cornelis Mondriaan began his career with naturalistic landscapes before embracing abstraction. This painter of Dutch nationality is one of the pillars of the De Stijl movement, founded at the beginning of the twentieth century. Going through the artistic upheavals of Paris then exiling himself to London and New York, he sought to go beyond material appearances to reach a spiritual and universal truth through a radical purification of forms.

The style of this theorist gradually evolved from stylized arboriculture towards a strict and mathematical geometry, Neoplasticism. He restricts his palette exclusively to primary colors, red, yellow, and blue, framed by non-colors such as white, black, and gray. The pictorial space is organized by an orthogonal grid of black lines of various thicknesses, eliminating any notion of depth or classic perspective. Minimalist works such as “Composition 01” and “Composition 10” embody this quest for perfect asymmetrical balance. Although he completely moves away from figuration, some late pieces like “World Map” bear witness to a visual dynamic inspired by the frenetic pace of modern urban life and the jazz music he loved so much.

The culmination of his search for pure and objective beauty is considered fundamental to the development of geometric abstract art. His refined visual language has a lasting influence on architecture, industrial design, and fashion throughout the twentieth century.
