Welcome to our selection of works by Piet Mondrian(1872-1944)
Pieter Cornelis Mondriaan, called Piet Mondrian from 1912, is a Dutch painter recognized as one of the pioneers of abstraction. Mondrian's reputation was built from the beginning of his career on a transcendental representation of the image (particularly in landscape), based on the radical purification of the painting. All traces of reference to the visible natural are progressively evacuated in favor of a vision of the Universal. Mondrian favors economy of means to play with the parameters he has chosen. This method is manifested from his increasingly abstract interpretation of analytical Cubism from 1912 to 1914 in Paris, until, in 1917, returning to Paris until 1938, he concentrated all his means on the construction of a balanced composition made of reduced and elongated forms to rectangles and a few colors, placed on an orthogonal grid, all declined in series until the end of his life.
