This gallery exclusively offered by our gallery is based on a play on kitsch, pastiche and clichés, references to "bad painting" and a certain pleasure in the debasement of models, while also demonstrating a deep knowledge of art history through constant references to painters of the past (Boucher, Fragonard, Courbet, Manet, …). These works are motivated by the desire to question the antagonistic notions of academism and avant-garde. This blending of styles and references attests to the disappearance of the great tradition of painting but affirms the vitality of current pictorial practice which draws its sources from both ancient masterpieces and images produced by contemporary culture.
