Welcome to our selection of works by Camille Pissarro(1830-1903)
Jacob Abraham Camille Pissarro, known as Camille Pissarro, was a French Impressionist then Neo-Impressionist painter, father of Lucien Pissarro.
Known as one of the "fathers of Impressionism", he
painted French rural life, especially landscapes and scenes
depicting peasants working in the fields, but he is also famous for his Montmartre scenes. In Paris,
his pupils included Paul Cézanne, Paul Gauguin, Jean Peské, Henri-Martin Lamotte. Pissarro
was also a theorist of anarchism, assiduously frequenting the painters of the "Nouvelle-Athènes" who
belonged to the anarchist movement. He shared this position with Paul Gauguin, with whom he later had strained relations.
Pissarro's production is uneven. His landscapes or bathers are sometimes marked by a certain
mawkishness, while he also produced dazzling works.
