Welcome to our selection of works by Norman Rockwell(1894-1978)
Norman Rockwell is an American illustrator. A figurative painter of 20th-century American life, he is famous for illustrating the covers of the Saturday Evening Post magazine from 1916 to 1960. Norman Rockwell's art is situated in a pivotal period in the history of illustration. He is the heir to the 19th-century American tradition, and particularly to Howard Pyle, who was one of its most important representatives through his adventure books and who influenced him very deeply. Norman Rockwell's style has been described as storytelling. As an illustrator, he made sure that his works perfectly matched the texts he illustrated. For his magazine covers, every detail played a role in the narration of the scene. His work evolved from a 19th-century naturalism to a more precise painting in his most prolific period. He also used caricature to accentuate the comical nature of certain situations.
