Welcome to our selection of works by Paul Sérusier(1864-1927)
Paul Sérusier was a French Post-Impressionist painter, associated with the
Nabis movement. Born into a wealthy middle-class family, his father, a businessman who worked in the
perfume industry, ensured him a classical education. In 1888, at the Gloanec inn in Pont-Aven,
Brittany, a town that then attracted many French and foreign artists, his attention was drawn to a
small group of artists who revolved around Émile Bernard and Paul Gauguin. He got closer to them, and even received a
free lesson from Gauguin when the latter presented him with his "Yellow Christ". He encouraged him to get rid
of the imitative constraint of painting, to use pure, vivid colors, not to hesitate to exaggerate
his visions, and to give his paintings his own decorative and symbolic logic.
