Still harmonies and poetry of everyday objects in Still life

Our artist paintings sublimate the delicacy of flower bouquets and the poetry of vanitas

Still life
The painting of inanimate objects gathers detailed depictions of luscious fruits, floral arrangements, game, or everyday utensils. This poetic genre celebrates the beauty of simple materials while inviting meditation on the passage of time. The Dutch artist Jan van Kessel distinguished himself in this discipline through microscopic precision in rendering flowers and insects.

Still life relies on rigorous arrangement and surface texture mastery. Painters played with virtuosity on glassware reflections, silverware luster, and water transparency. Directional lighting created intense chiaroscuro that highlighted food freshness or wood grain. The color palette varied depending on subjects, alternating bright tones and muted hues. Vanitas compositions also integrated deep philosophical symbolism through skulls, hour-glasses, or snuffed candles.

Long relegated to the lowest rank of academic hierarchy, still life experienced its golden age during the seventeenth century in Northern Europe and Spain. It was reinvented in the nineteenth century through the genius of Paul Cézanne, whose innovative research on geometric volumes and color laid the aesthetic foundations for Cubism.
Selecting a faithful reproduction of a classic still life adds a touch of timeless elegance to your dining room with an oil painting executed on canvas by professional copyists.
