The Spanish golden age in oil paintings of Diego Velazquez

A hand painted copy of a famous painting for your high end and professional wall decoration

Velázquez Diego
Trained in the intellectual effervescence of Seville, Diego Rodríguez de Silva y Velázquez stood out very early for his precocious talent. Spanish by birth, he quickly joined the royal court where he accomplished the bulk of his career as an official painter. In the midst of the Baroque period, he freed himself from rigid conventions to develop a naturalistic approach, capturing with great psychological accuracy the essence of his contemporaries and the Spanish nobility.

The Sevillian artist’s aesthetics rely on an absolute mastery of brushwork, becoming increasingly free and fluid over the years. He excels in the treatment of light and space, using subtle glazes to render the texture of fabrics and the complexion of faces. His most famous painting, “Las Meninas - The Maids of Honour”, demonstrates his ability to create complex optical illusions and fascinating mirror effects. He also approaches mythology with a humanistic and carnal approach, admirably illustrated by “Rokeby Venus”. His palette evolves towards silvery tones and luminous grays, conferring a vibrant and incredibly modern atmosphere upon his compositions.

Often considered the painter of painters, his technical contribution disrupted the history of visual representation. His innovative treatment of atmospheric space and fragmented brushstrokes participates in the evolution of Western art, deeply influencing subsequent generations, from Impressionist masters to Realist creators of the following century.
Treating oneself to a museum quality reproduction of Velázquez allows one to invite the grandeur of the Spanish court into the living room, sublimated by the authentic texture of a delicate oil painting.
