Bistro by Edward Hopper

This early work reveals the influence of European travels on the painter and marks the beginnings of an exploration of cafe atmosphere and modern isolation. The American artist Hopper Edward conceives this original composition under the title of “Bistro”, which captures the melancholy serenity of the Parisian banks of the Seine. Through this emblematic scene, the painter offers a subtle reflection on the duality between human intimacy and the rigidity of architecture.
