Composition 04 by Piet Mondrian

A rigorous harmony emerges from this plastic configuration which embodies the fundamental precepts of radical abstract art. With the canvas entitled “Composition 04”, the visual theorist Piet Mondrian designs a system of spatial relations based on the equivalence of graphic elements. In the upper center, an imposing red square stands out as the major focal element of the scene. It is flanked to its right by a small deep blue square and to its left by a brilliant yellow square. The lower right corner hosts a vertical red rectangle that closes the composition.
