“Contrast of Forms 1” is a central work from Fernand Léger’s Analytical Cubism period. The artist abandons the subject to focus on pure visual dynamism. The canvas is an entanglement of cylindrical, conical, and faceted planes. Léger, nicknamed “Tubist”, uses these volumes to create a mechanical rhythm. Color is used to accentuate the forms, with a bold palette of blue, white, yellow, and red, structured by black lines. It is a pure abstraction, celebrating the energy and tension of forms.
