Hail Caesar! We who are about to Die salute You by Jean-Léon Gérôme

This monumental work of art is perfectly part of the French academic history painting of the nineteenth century. The tiers of the amphitheater are filled with an immense crowd stretching under a huge ocre velarium protecting the spectators from the heat.
