The background reveals the thick walls and shaded arch of a light stone farm building, whose dark opening creates a mysterious point of escape. The entire composition is bathed in a warm, silent atmosphere, only interrupted by the quiet clucking of the birds.

The execution of the work shows a virtuoso mastery of the palette knife and brush, with thick, directional strokes that structure the volumes. The tactile rendering of the hay and stone demonstrates an excellent realistic technique and a deep sensitivity to material.
