Created by the undisputed master named Hokusai Katsushika, this work is entitled “In the Mountains of Totomi (36 Views of Mount Fuji)”. It is part of a major thematic cycle dedicated to the sacred landscapes of Japan. The artist powerfully captures the daily labor of local artisans, creating a striking contrast between industrious human activity and the quiet majesty of nature.

In the center, an immense beam of light wood stands diagonally, supported by two sturdy wooden trestles. Atop this monumental piece, a sawyer perched high up works with his saw, while another craftsman works on the ground beneath the structure, surrounded by white and black smoke rising from a fire. On the left, other workers shape wooden pieces near a thatched hut. Fine wood shavings pile up on the sandy ground, highlighting the strength and dedication of the workers. In the background, the snow-capped silhouette of the sacred volcano emerges gently from fluffy clouds, under a dark blue sky contrasting with the green, wooded hills.
