Large Toile Skirt (Wegener)

An exquisite fashion illustration showing a young woman standing on a balcony. She wears a long blue and turquoise plaid skirt (canvas or gingham pattern) that elongates her silhouette, and a vaporous gray shawl that seems to float in the wind. She looks down, looking surprised or intrigued by a small spider descending at the end of its thread (a symbol of luck or destiny?). The ironwork of the balcony adds an Art Nouveau graphic touch with its black scrolls. The style is very “ligne claire”, typical of press illustrations of the time.
