Luchon by Alfons Mucha

The promotion of tourist destinations and hydrotherapy experienced a spectacular boom under the advertising brush of the master of Art Nouveau, Alphonse Mucha. This tourist poster of great visual efficiency integrates in a narrative way the imposed title “Luchon” in the heart of the grandiose landscapes of the Pyrenees. The artist succeeds in combining the seduction of adventure travel with the luxury and refinement of modern resort stations.

A smiling rider, dressed in a dark traditional outfit with a wide red belt, rides a magnificent light brown stallion in the foreground. The horse, represented from a three-quarters back view, displays an extraordinarily long and wavy white tail and mane that swirl spectacularly in the wind. In the background, a detailed view shows the large classical-style thermal establishment surrounded by neat gardens and palm trees under a bright sun. Wooded mountains rise on each side, framing the scene, while bold red and black advertising lettering dominates the upper part of the poster. At the bottom, large red and gold lilies adorn the decorative border.
