Quartier Latin* by Alfons Mucha

The student and festive life of the French capital is adorned with poetry under the influence of the graphic compositions born from the talent of Alphonse Mucha. This memorable illustration, which proudly displays the title “Quartier Latin” at the heart of its ornamental structure, bears witness to the creative freedom of Art Nouveau artists. Through this project designed to support the poor and suffering, the poster artist combines social commitment with a highly modern, sensual and bold aesthetic.

Her long brown hair with tawny highlights waves in spectacular organic curves that extend across the entire green and gold background. A multitude of small silhouettes of bohemian students, in frock coats and hats, climb and come to life on her wavy tresses. On her head rests a whimsical headdress adorned with light blue bird wings and miniature fortified ramparts. A fluid drape of warm salmon orange wraps her hips, contrasting with the pale green of the background. A large stylized black frame borders the composition and integrates white advertising inscriptions.
