Rehearsal in the Dance Foyer (Degas)

This work is another exploration of the ballet rehearsal theme. The composition is centered on two dancers in the foreground, whose light-colored tutus catch the light. Other ballerinas are visible in the background, creating depth. The color palette is soft and subtle, with shades of gray, mauve, and green. Degas uses a fluid pictorial technique to render the luminous and somewhat hazy atmosphere of the dance foyer. It is a poetic and delicate vision of the young dancers’ work.
