Scene Design Cleopatra (Delaunay)

This work is a set design project created by Robert Delaunay for the Ballets Russes’ “Cleopatra.” He deploys a colorful and modern vision of ancient Egypt. The scene is structured by large columns that create perspective. In the background, we see pyramids and walls with decorative patterns. The color palette is vivid and bold, with deep blues, oranges, and pinks. Delaunay is not aiming for a faithful historical reconstruction, but for a poetic and spectacular atmosphere. A stylized green sphinx figure adds a touch of mystery. It is a fascinating example of how avant-garde artists collaborated with the world of theater and dance, bringing their revolutionary vision of color and form to the stage.
