Starlight night on the Rhone by Vincent Van Gogh

This magnificent night seascape, executed by the great painter Vincent van Gogh, is one of his most famous representations of night from the Arles period. In this poetic work entitled “Starlight night on the Rhone”, the artist explores artificial and natural light in relation to darkness. These columns of orange light are reflected in a very rhythmic and vibrant way on the undulating blue and black current. In the foreground, on the dark sandy shore with bluish highlights, a loving couple strolls arm in arm, their dark silhouettes walking together. A few small dark boats are moored near the shoreline.
