Still Life in Front of the Cabinet by Juan Gris

This still life of great classic sobriety demonstrates the return of Juan Gris to a more legible and orderly figuration. In the center rises a stylized white fruit bowl on which rests a bunch of dark and light grapes. Two pieces of newspapers displaying the letters “LI” and “AL” frame the foot of the bowl on either side. The background is occupied by a dark brown wooden cupboard panel whose moldings are drawn with great geometric sharpness.
