Still Life with Pitcher and Towel by André Derain

An off-white drapery spreads out in marked folds on the edge of the light wooden table, bringing a strong luminous contrast against the dark red and black background.

This work highlights the artist’s technique in the treatment of the pictorial material and reflections. Broad and generous brushstrokes structure the forms with strength, showing his craftsmanship as an artisan in catching the light.
