Stop by Paul Raynal

This striking artwork embodies the very essence of street art and the reappropriation of mythical figures of the twentieth century. By means of this original creation entitled “Stop”, the talented visual artist Raynal Paul revisits a legendary portrait through the prism of urban artistic vandalism. This dialogue between classic aesthetics and street techniques offers a critical analysis of modern idolatry. The gorgeous face of the famous blonde icon is placed majestically in the center, treated as a highly contrasted black and white halftone portrait. The background of the canvas glows with a highly bright golden yellow, beautifully enhanced with dynamic green and white brushstrokes. All around the central figure, large red and blue capital letters form the famous word of road interruption in a very dynamic stencil style. Splatters of blue paint and dark dripping lines partially cover the bottom part of the star’s portrait. The muse’s gaze, soft and distant, contrasts sharply with the harshness of the surrounding graphic inscriptions.

Raynal Paul demonstrates here his perfect mastery of silkscreen printing in the style of Andy Warhol and aerosol paint.
