The Bottle of Rum and the Newspaper by Juan Gris

In this superb geometric composition, the famous Spanish master Juan Gris offers an audacious creation entitled “The Bottle of Rum and the Newspaper”. This complex work of formal decomposition illustrates the purest and most thoughtful evolution of synthetic cubism. Rejecting traditional illusionism in favor of an architectural reconstruction of the support, the painter reinvents spatial relationships with a mathematical rigor that characterises his style.
