The Dance - study by André Derain

Created by the modern master Derain André, this work entitled “The Dance - study” abandons the thickness of oil to explore the fluidity of mediums on paper. In this bucolic idyll, the artist evokes a world of bathers and dancing figures in perfect symbiosis with a nature transfigured by pure color.

The work presents a wooded landscape where several nude silhouettes are scattered in a clearing bathed in a soft, diffused light. On the left, a group of figures sketched in ochre and green tones seems to rest or converse under the shade of immense ultramarine blue foliage.
