The Guardian of Paradise by Franz von Stuck

Inspired by biblical accounts and Symbolist religious painting, this angelic figure impresses through heavenly majesty and warrior strength. Entitled “The Guardian of Paradise”, this large vertical composition created by Franz Stuck represents the guardian of the gates of Eden armed with his sword of fire. Standing in the center of the panel, the celestial angel with an athletic build is dressed in a draped tunic of very pale green. His noble face with regular features and dark eyes is encircled by a fine circular golden halo. The luminescent background is composed of multicolored pointillist strokes of blue, yellow, and pink simulating an unreal celestial brightness.
