Window with Orange Curtains (Delaunay)

This work is part of Robert Delaunay’s famous “Windows” series, where he explores the Cubist fragmentation of space and light. The view is broken down into geometric facets. The structure of the Eiffel Tower is barely recognizable, transformed into a construction of blue and white planes. What gives the work its energy are the bright orange curtains framing the scene. The contrast between warm and cool colors is at the heart of the composition, creating dynamic tension. Delaunay paints the experience of vision itself, with its reflections, transparencies, and the light passing through the glass.
